my birthday story… so i do not have to tell everyone over and over again

December 4, 2008

1203081639i woke up at 6.36 thinking why i am up… i get up and take a shower, get dressed, and go up stairs… i get yelled at and told to wait down stairs… when i was called up to get greeted by a big tall box…1202080700

to my great parents i thank thee for the biggest present i have ever gotten… i mean this in like big as in tall and stuff… never have had that big of a present before… i am opening it up and i am greeted by this note…dscn6220

1202080700asorry for the picture quality… it was taken on a phone

by now i have a general idea of what is in the box… those of you that know me you too might know what is in the box also… i kept opening the box and this is what i found beneath the layer of wrapping paper…1202080700b

1202080701a3

i was greeted by a nice little hard shell case with the biggest dreams of what was in side i opened it up and my eyes were met by a guitar that was played and made by God

1202080701b

did my eyes fool me… no because it was still here… a Gibson Les Paul Studio with a red wine finish

1202080701c

my heart was very full at that moment my 16th birthday had hit a home run by 7.05 in the morning

with the stupid school system breathing down my neck i left my love

to go to jail (Roosevelt High School) but since it is early in the morning my father took me to the local

bagel boy where i had a nice 605 with pizza cheese on sun dried tomato bagel…

the day got better as i greeted my friend and scholar Dan Bruns…

when i returned from the place of cruelty i was forced against my will to go to the DMV where i got my Operator License

it took a life time my father was at the church and did not have a car to get home with so

my mother took us to church where we picked him up

the day that seemed to take forever to end got longer as i was forced not by my will to get gas in the durango while waiting i opened my second gift of the day the first James Bond movie “Dr. No” 1202081600letting you on in a secret me and my father are now in the James Bond mood (  i think that i would make a  good Bond )

skipping ahead 25 min we arrived at our drive way when we got around the curve i was met by a

an unknown car i asked whose car is that thinking it was a workers car because we just added on to our house…

my parents were silent… we got closer and i realized my dream car was in my drive way… dscn6216

my dad pulled out of his pocket the keys ( now i know most of you are thinking he got a new guitar and a mustang well i will answer that… my parents have been looking and saving money for 9 months now… the car appearing in the newspaper on my birthday is a total God thing )

with no time to think i was rushed off to guitar lessons in brandon south dakota

just wanting to be home i hurried on home ( not speeding in any way ) when i returned to my pad i was greeted by a present from my sister one that i will always like a Christmas tree 1203081613

i decided on Texas Roadhouse for dinner there we met the coolest waiter ever his name is Thaddeus

1202081854looking just like Matt Lockett, Thaddeus brought me my rack of ribs after that i was escorted to the batmobile aka mustang i drove to the movie theater where i  saw my first Bond movie

( this is all been done with my parents )

that night my mother came in to my room and told me i needed to read Psalm 16, one because I’m 16

Psalm 16

A David Song

1-2 Keep me safe, O God, I’ve run for dear life to you.
I say to God, “Be my Lord!”
      Without you, nothing makes sense.

3 And these God-chosen lives all around—
      what splendid friends they make!

4 Don’t just go shopping for a god.
      Gods are not for sale.
   I swear I’ll never treat god-names
      like brand-names.

5-6 My choice is you, God, first and only.
And now I find I’m your choice!
You set me up with a house and yard.
And then you made me your heir!

7-8 The wise counsel God gives when I’m awake
is confirmed by my sleeping heart.
   Day and night I’ll stick with God;
I’ve got a good thing going and I’m not letting go.

9-10 I’m happy from the inside out,
and from the outside in, I’m firmly formed.
You canceled my ticket to hell—
      that’s not my destination!

11 Now you’ve got my feet on the life path,
all radiant from the shining of your face.
Ever since you took my hand,
      I’m on the right way.

thank you to those who made this day possible… thank you Caleb for providing me with unlimited Christmas song and that ugly sweater vest

thank you to my grandparents for giving me 50$ to buy two more James Bond movies and a new guitar strap

thank you

    Thomas:

The only better birthday story I have ever read is in Luke. I doubt you need this reminder, but never forget how good your parents are to you. Someday you will have an opportunity to be just as generous to someone else and I know because you have been blessed, you will be a huge blessing.

Now let’s go back and explain that your mom (me) had you read and hang onto Psalm 16, not just because you are 16, but because it is a really, really good life Psalm. It talks about our safety in God, about being a “One Thing” man of God only to discover that you are also his “One Thing”, about the watches of the night confirming things to your heart, the joy of walking with Jesus, and so much, much more.

Plant it deeply in your heart…for this is LIFE and LIFE abundant.

If I were you I would go sit in the Batmobile and play the James Bond theme on my new guitar and smile until my checks hurt.

I am very happy for you. Happy Birthday!!!

like amy said, our parents take care of us. we will have to take care of them when they are old and senile.

Thomas, Happy (belated) Birthday! I’m glad you got the Stang-it’s sweet and so is the guitar. Your parents and fam knew how to bless you on your birthday. You are all awesome people who love Jesus.

Oh yes, that is right. Dad and I buy gifts for you in order to have a certain level of care in our old age – not because we love you and want to bless you, or imitate God and give good gifts. Don’t worry about the old age thing…I think Jesus will be back before I hit 70. – Mom
